Seeing The Light
What is it about hiding in our version of reality? As leaders we seem obsessed with perpetuating the myth of our professional personae. It must seem safer than being more transparent; more authentic. The truth is: We expend far more energy first fabricating, then maintaining the facade we present, than living without orchestration. Wouldn’t it be refreshing to deal with people as they really are? Wouldn’t it be less stressful, even relaxing, to live authentically? Not adjusting ourselves to fit different crowds? Gandhi lived so consistently that he didn’t even need written contracts. How refreshing! No posing, deceit, or innuendo. He said what he meant and acted on his convictions. He was enlightened, I suppose. Perhaps if more of us saw the light, people who work for us would see our light instead of our shabbily constructed facade.
